Tripura BJP launches statewide protests over attack on Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh

The Tripura Pradesh BJP on Saturday launched a massive statewide protest near integrated check posts and land customs stations along the Bangladesh border, condemning the recent attack and ransacking the ancestral home of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore in the neighboring country. Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh.

Speaking on the matter, BJP General Secretary and MLA Bhagaban Das, who led a rally in Agartala and near the Akhaura Integrated Check Post, said the interim government in Bangladesh is creating unrest in the country and has failed to prevent such attacks.

“Recently, a barbaric incident occurred in Bangladesh that sent shockwaves across Tripura and the entire nation. The ancestral home of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore was vandalised. The fascist and fundamentalist elements in Bangladesh have attacked the residence of Tagore, who is not only an emotion for Bengalis in India but also for the people of undivided India. This attack is a direct assault on our shared cultural heritage. There must be a limit to such jealousy. But even Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore was not spared. These groups of hyenas attacked his residence,” Das said.

He added that protests were being held at various ICPs and across all districts of the state on Saturday, and that the agitation would continue on June 16 in every assembly segment.

“Through this protest, we want to send a clear message that those who attacked the ancestral home of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore are mentally unstable. Everyone must unite and speak out against such actions so that the perpetrators think twice before committing such acts again,” he added.
