Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar brought to hospital with no vital signs, declared dead after 48-minute resuscitation effort

Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar was brought to the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala with no detectable vital signs and was declared dead at 12:48 pm after doctors carried out resuscitation efforts for 48 minutes, a senior doctor said on Monday, July 20.
 

Speaking to the media, Dr Pradip Bhowmik of GB Pant Hospital said Dhankar was brought to the hospital at around 12 pm.
 

"He was brought here at around 12:00 pm. The attending doctors detected no vital signs on arrival. We immediately started CPR, and our medical team continued resuscitation efforts for 48 minutes. At 12:48 pm, he was declared dead," Dr Bhowmik said.
 

The doctor added that since no vital signs were detected when Dhankar was brought to the hospital, he was effectively brought dead.
 

"The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, after which the exact cause of death will be known," he said.
 

Earlier in the day, Dhankar was found hanging inside his office chamber at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Agartala in a suspected case of suicide. He was immediately rushed to GB Pant Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him.
 

Senior police officials have reached the Police Headquarters, and an investigation has been initiated into the circumstances surrounding his death.
