Tripura Govt to sign MoU with AIIMS to upgrade GB Pant Hospital, holds meeting with CM

The Tripura government will sign an MoU with AIIMS Delhi to further strengthen Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital at Agartala.

In this regard, a four-member delegation from AIIMS visited GB Pant Hospital and held a meeting with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday.

Speaking on the issue, Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte said that Dr. Sriniwas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, along with his team of three doctors, has come to Agartala.

“The purpose of their visit is to explore how to further enhance the public health services and medical education at AGMC and GB Pant Hospital, and how to make these services accessible to the 40 lakh people who depend on this hospital. Our Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha had invited Dr. Sriniwas and the AIIMS Director for this purpose. Today, they had a meeting with the Chief Minister. The team is now inspecting the hospital. Over the next two days, we will continue meetings with them and share concerns regarding GB Hospital and the Medical College. The Government of India has instructed AIIMS to assist all state medical colleges and hospitals. In terms of the growing demand in public health—such as the number of doctors, departments, medical seats (UG, PG), equipment, super specialties, diagnostics, tests, and hospital management expertise—they will offer us their expert advice. We will sign an MoU with them, and their suggestions will be implemented,” he said.

Gitte also mentioned that during the meeting with the Chief Minister, Tripura officials shared the current status of GB Pant Hospital and Medical College, the progress made over the last 20 years, and the expectations of the public. Some hospital-related points were also discussed.

“Now, we will physically visit the service departments and speak to doctors so they can fully understand our situation. Based on that, they will give their approval. After signing the MoU, the work will continue for the next six months. We welcome the initiative taken by the Director of AIIMS Delhi to further develop GB Pant Hospital, and I am hopeful that our AGMC hospital and college will benefit greatly from it. Ultimately, the people of Tripura will be the real beneficiaries,” he added.
