Tripura: Man arrested with cannabis worth Rs 70 lakh in Agartala

Tripura Police seized a massive haul of cannabis valued at Rs 70 lakh on Saturday, arresting a 33-year-old man identified as Mithun Karmakar from Agartala city.

West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar disclosed that authorities received a tip-off regarding a 12-wheeler truck suspected of transporting illegal drugs outside Tripura. "Following the intelligence report, police personnel established naka checking points and detained the truck," Kumar stated.

Initially, the truck appeared empty during a preliminary inspection. However, upon conducting a thorough search, law enforcement officials discovered a concealed chamber within the vehicle, which contained 45 packets of cannabis weighing a total of 355 kilograms.

"The cannabis has an estimated market value of around ₹70 lakh," the SP confirmed, emphasizing the importance of this seizure in their ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes. Karmakar, the truck driver, reportedly intended to transport the cargo to Meghalaya.
