A major crackdown by Tripura Police’s intelligence wing led to the arrest of a young man carrying a massive haul of yaba tablets worth over Rs 25 lakh in Churaibari, North District, on September 12.
The accused has been identified as Nazim Uddin, a resident of Ward No. 2, Tarakpur Gram Panchayat, in the Kurti-Kadamtala Assembly constituency.
“Acting on secret information, the police team launched an operation near the railway station area under Churaibari Police Station and intercepted Nazim Uddin. During the search, 10,000 Yaba tablets were recovered from his possession,” police said.
Authorities estimate the seized drugs have a black-market value of approximately Rs 25 lakh. The seizure has raised alarm in the local community, with residents voicing concerns over the increasing threat of drug trafficking in the region.
The Officer-in-Charge of Churaibari Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway to uncover the broader network and identify other individuals involved. The accused is set to be produced in court shortly.
Police officials described the recovery as a significant step in curbing the smuggling of yaba tablets, which have been increasingly entering Tripura from across the border.
