Tripura Police have seized contraband worth over Rs 20 lakh in two separate operations conducted within the last 24 hours on July 11. Despite the success in confiscating the drugs, the alleged smugglers managed to escape.
Late Wednesday night, a joint operation was carried out by Assam Rifles and Tripura Police at the residence of Hussain Ali in the Dharmanagar sub-division of Tripura's North District. Acting on confidential information, the team recovered 22.5 grams of heroin from Ali's house, estimated to be worth around Rs 1 lakh. "Hussain Ali fled the scene upon realizing the presence of police and Assam Rifles," a police source revealed.
On Thursday, Tripura Police continued their efforts against drug trafficking with a significant seizure in the Brahmakunda village of the Mohanpur sub-division in Tripura’s West District. Sub-divisional Police Officer Bijoy Sen detailed the operation, stating, "We received intelligence that Rupak Bhattacharya was storing a large quantity of Yaba tablets at his residence in Brahmakunda village."
Upon raiding Bhattacharya's residence, the police discovered 4,000 Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh. Despite the successful seizure, Bhattacharya also fled the scene before he could be apprehended. "A case has been registered against the accused, and investigations are underway. Efforts are being made to apprehend him soon," added Sen.
