Tripura's Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), launched a joint operation on May 6 early morning, apprehending two Bihar women from Agartala Railway Station for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of ganja to Punjab.
According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala, the accused were caught with 22.405 kg of dry ganja packed in six packets concealed inside two pit bags and a trolley bag.
The duo had allegedly boarded trains from Agartala multiple times to transport narcotics.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Manju Devi (45) a resident of Lakshmisharai district and Rachana Devi (36) a resident of Bhagalpur district of Bihar.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that the contraband was meant for distribution in Punjab, where it could fetch around Rs 4.5 lakh in the black market. A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act", he added.
