Tripura railway police detain five Gujarat-bound Bangladeshis with fake Aadhaar cards

Tripura's Railway Police detained five Bangladeshi nationals with fake Aadhaar cards in Gomati district for illegally crossing the border into the state. They were en route to Gujarat in search of work.

Speaking on the matter, an official from the Government Railway Police in Udaipur said that early morning of March 11, when the Kanchanjunga Express was about to reach Udaipur Railway Station, they received a tip-off regarding the movement of illegal Bangladeshi nationals at the station.

"We immediately rushed to the station and conducted a search operation. During that time, one male and four females were found acting suspiciously. They showed us Aadhaar cards, but upon closer inspection, the documents appeared dubious. When we started interrogating them based on the suspicious Aadhaar cards, they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals who had crossed the international border with the help of a tout. They were supposed to travel to Gujarat via Sealdah in West Bengal. We have handed them over to the Tripura Police," said the official.

Meanwhile, one of the Bangladeshi nationals told reporters that she had paid Rs 15,000 to the tout to cross the international border.

"I am a resident of Bangladesh, and the tout charged me ₹15,000 to cross the border. We are five people who crossed together. The tout also provided us with Aadhaar cards yesterday. The day before yesterday, we crossed the border and spent the night at the tout's residence. We came here in search of work and to earn a better livelihood, as the prices of essential commodities are very high there. The situation in our country is not good these days," she added.
