Tripura records lowest crime rate in a decade, says police chief

Tripura's Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan announced on Monday, October 21, that the state has achieved its lowest crime rate in 10 years across all categories. The statement came during the Police Commemoration Day observance at the Manoranjan Debbarma Smriti Stadium in Agartala.

DGP Ranjan addressed misconceptions about law and order in the state, emphasising the police force's effectiveness. "The police have been working diligently, and as a result, the crime rate has decreased," he stated, noting that all recent elections were conducted peacefully.

The police chief highlighted successful security measures during recent festivities, including Durga Puja, which saw no incidents. He assured that swift action is taken in response to any law and order challenges, with senior officers and forces deployed promptly to affected areas.

Ranjan stressed the autonomy of the police force, stating, "We are working without any interference and taking strong actions without hesitation to maintain law and order." This approach, he indicated, has contributed to the improved security situation in Tripura.

The Police Commemoration Day event also honoured the sacrifices of law enforcement personnel. DGP Ranjan noted that over 35,000 police officers have lost their lives in service since India's independence.
