Tripura Police on Tuesday late evening detained six Bangladeshi nationals at MBB Airport in Agartala when they were enroute Kolkata.
Following a preliminary investigation, Officer in Charge of the Airport Police Station, Abhijit Mandal, revealed that the individuals failed to produce valid documents during police interrogation.
“We received that some people were roaming around the airport suspiciously and based on that input we have detained them. During preliminary investigation they failed to produce valid documents and confessed that they are Bangladeshi nationals. The detainees claimed to have entered India illegally through Tripura from Bangladesh and intended to reach West Bengal via MBB Airport. As a result, a case has been registered against them under the Indian Passport Act”, he said.
He further said that the police have produced them before the court seeking police remand.
