Tripura student body protests in Agartala, seeks strict action on illegal immigration

Tripura's Twipra Student’s Federation (TSF), a constituent of the North East Students' Organisation (NESO), on August 18, held a sit-in demonstration protesting against illegal immigrants. They demanded strict implementation of the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs to detect and deport migrants.

The protest was held near Circuit House in Agartala city.

Speaking on the matter, Vice President of TSF, John Debbarma said that across the state TSF is holding sit-in demonstrations against illegal immigrants.

“Illegal immigrant issue is not new in Tripura as well as in the North Eastern states. It’s been more than 40 years we are facing issues of illegal immigrants. So, as said by NESO, we are protesting against the illegal immigrants and demanding to detect and deport them. We will also submit the memorandum to the chief minister,” he said.

John also demanded the state government to strictly implement the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and also to coordinate with other states.

“Since we all know that eviction is under process in Assam and those who will be evicted will try to relocate in other states. So, we want steps to be taken to communicate with other states and to prevent them from entering Tripura,” he added.
