GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet today approved hike in daily wages of tea workers in the state.
Sources said the wages of tea labourers have been increased to Rs 217 from Rs 167. There was no official coonfirmation though.
State finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had stated while presenting the interim budget recently that the wages would be revised by today.

The tea workers had for long been demanding revision of their wages to Rs 351.
The Congress had on Sunday promised to hike the wages to Rs 365 per day if the party is voted to power in the assembly elections. Party leader Rahul Gandhi said it would use funds to be realised from businessmen from outside the state who are being allotted lease of airport, railway station and oilfields in the state.
