BJP Leads in 4 Out of 9 Constituencies in Northeast By-Polls

Guwahati, October 24, 2019:

Counting is on in the nine Assembly Constituencies across the Northeast, which went to the polls on October 21. Meanwhile, the BJP party has opened up leads in  4 out of the 9 Assembly Constituencies (most notably, 3 out of the 4 in Assam).

In Meghalaya, the ruling NPP-backed UDP candidate Balajied Synrem is leading in the lone Assembly Constituency which went to the polls, Shella. Independent candidate Grace Mary Kharpuri is in the second position. Two rounds of counting have been conducted thus far.

In Assam, meanwhile, the ruling BJP party's candidates are leading in three of the Constituencies (Ratabari, Rangapara, and Sonari), whereas the AIUDF has eked out a lead in the Jania Constituency.

In Sikkim, the SKM party is leading in one Constituency (Poklok Kamrang), while the BJP party is leading in another (Martam Rumtek).

Meanwhile, Chakat Aboh, the wife of murdered MLA Tirong Aboh, is leading the by a hefty margin.
