The 42nd NTPC Sub-Junior National Archery Championship 2025 opened with grandeur at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Yupia on Sunday, November 23, drawing 46 teams from 28 states and one Union Territory. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu formally inaugurated the national-level event in the presence of SAA Chairman John Neelam, APEDA Chairman and Arunachal Olympic Association President Er. Taba Tedir, and other dignitaries.
The week-long championship seeks to showcase India’s rising archery talent while reinforcing values of discipline, precision, and sporting excellence among young athletes. Officials highlighted that the event also fosters national unity and reflects India’s rich archery traditions.
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Khandu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the sports ecosystem in the state. He announced that a state-of-the-art archery stadium will soon come up in Itanagar, while another specialised facility is being planned in Tawang—an area where archery is deeply rooted in local culture.
Khandu applauded the Arunachal Archery Association, led by President Tadar Niglar, and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs for successfully hosting a tournament of national importance. He extended his best wishes to all participating athletes.
The championship includes competitions across recurve, compound, and Indian round categories and will continue till November 30, with teams—including from Meghalaya competing in multiple stages.
Speaking to India Today, Tadar Apa, Director of Sports, said the championship would provide a “major advantage” to local archers, offering exposure to national-level talent, advanced equipment, and mentorship from experienced coaches.
Participants and coaching teams from states such as Maharashtra and Haryana also commended the organisers for their excellent arrangements, warm hospitality, and smooth logistical coordination.
