8 years on, Rs 32-crore Kambu bridge in Arunachal remains unfinished

A bridge project in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang district has remained incomplete for nearly eight years, drawing criticism from local youth organisations over the prolonged delay.
 

The 150-metre-long Kambu Bridge, being constructed over the Siyom river under Kamba Circle in the Liromoba Assembly constituency, was taken up in 2018 with an estimated cost of Rs 32 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
 

A team of the All 27th Liromoba Youth Organisation, led by its president Banya Yomgam, recently inspected the construction site and expressed concern over the slow progress of the project.
 

The bridge is intended to connect Kambu village with Kamba town and provide an all-weather road link to several villages in the area. Local residents have long relied on the project as a crucial connectivity link, particularly during the monsoon when access to the region becomes difficult.
 

Following the inspection, Mr. Yomgam urged the contractor and the concerned Public Works Department (PWD) authorities to expedite the construction and complete the long-pending project.
 

The foundation stone for the bridge was formally laid in March 2019. However, despite the project having been taken up several years ago, construction is yet to be completed.
 

The project is being executed by the PWD’s Yomcha division.
 

The youth organisation said the continued delay has caused frustration among local residents, who are awaiting the completion of the bridge for improved connectivity, transportation and access to essential services.
 

The group also urged the department concerned to take necessary steps to ensure that the remaining work is completed without further delay.
