A confident pitch for full control of Tawang’s local bodies emerged on November 16 as the Bharatiya Janata Party introduced its Zilla Parishad Member candidates for all six blocks of the district.
The announcement, made during a declaration and felicitation event at the party’s district office, comes ahead of the panchayat elections in the strategically located border district.
The district leadership presented the ZPM candidates for Zemithang–Dudungkhar, Lumla, Tawang, Kitpi, Mukto and Jang Thingbu, stressing internal unity and a development-focused agenda. Party workers and supporters attended in large numbers, signalling an assertive grassroots mobilisation effort.
Lumla MLA Tsering Lhamu said the party is poised for a “landslide” across gram, anchal and zilla parishad levels, adding that two of the six ZPM seats reserved for women would also remain with the BJP. She framed the expected sweep as a reflection of both organisational strength and voter confidence in a border region where stability and development remain high priorities.
The candidates felicitated by the party were Tsering Yangzom (Zemithang–Dudungkhar), Thutan Gombu (Lumla), Sonam Nordzin (Tawang), Tenzin Monpa (Kitpi), Pem Tsering (Mukto) and Leki Gombu (Jang Thingbu).
Local leaders urged the nominees to maintain accountability and work closely with residents if elected, presenting the slate as part of a larger plan to reinforce administrative continuity in Tawang, which borders China and remains geopolitically sensitive.
