Phurpa Tsering, the BJP MLA who won his fourth consecutive term from Dirang constituency in West Kameng district, has struck a humble note, stating that he sees himself as a "servant" of the people first and foremost.
"I am not here to rule, I am here to serve. I am first a servant," Tsering told the media at the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly after securing a victory margin of 1,202 votes against NPP's Yeshi Tsewang.
Tsering's political journey has been marked by grassroots involvement, having served as the president of the Dirang Bloc Congress Committee and the West Kameng District Youth Congress earlier. He was also elected unopposed to the West Kameng Zilla Parishad and served as its chairman between 2007 and 2008.
Tsering contested as a People's Party of Arunachal candidate in the Dirang seat in 2009, defeating the incumbent Congress MLA. He was re-elected unopposed in 2014 and 2019.
Addressing Dirang's potential, Tsering said, "Our Dirang has huge tourism potential, and one airport ALG is also soon going to be constructed. The biggest challenge for us is how to give employment opportunities to our energised but jobless youths who have quality education."
