Arunachal celebrates 50 years of democratic governance with golden jubilee ceremony

The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly reached a historic milestone as it commemorated five decades of democratic representation, with Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu jointly inaugurating the Golden Jubilee celebrations at the state capital.

 

The significance of this moment extends far beyond ceremonial traditions. For half a century, the Assembly has served as the voice of Arunachal Pradesh's diverse communities, navigating the complex transition from a union territory to full statehood while preserving the democratic rights of its people across challenging terrain and varied tribal cultures.

 

Governor Parnaik unveiled a commemorative plaque and formally declared the opening of the Golden Jubilee events, marking the beginning of year-long celebrations that will honour the Assembly's democratic legacy. The ceremony brought together the state's top leadership, with Speaker Tesam Pongte felicitating the Governor, Chief Minister Khandu, and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein for their continued commitment to democratic governance.

 

Chief Minister Khandu released a specially composed theme song for the Golden Jubilee, capturing the spirit of the state's democratic journey and its aspirations for the future. The musical tribute reflects the cultural richness of Arunachal Pradesh while celebrating the Assembly's role in giving voice to the state's 1.4 million residents.

 

The Governor's address during the ceremony emphasised the weight of responsibility that comes with democratic leadership. He called upon elected representatives to understand their duties deeply and lead with a clear purpose, ensuring that their words translate into meaningful action for the people they serve.

 

The Golden Jubilee celebrations represent more than a look backwards at achievements.
