Arunachal flash floods: NH-415 submerged, several areas affected amid severe flooding in East Siang

Incessant rainfall and flash floods have triggered widespread destruction across East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, causing extensive damage to infrastructure, residential areas, public assets and disrupting connectivity in several locations.

According to latest official reports, the link road leading to the Upper Campus of Jawaharlal Nehru College has suffered extensive damage due to heavy rainfall and erosion, affecting access to the institution.

In Pasighat, torrential flooding in Sile and Sibo Korong inundated adjoining localities, resulting in damage to multiple residential and commercial establishments. Authorities reported that overflowing waters from Besong Korong caused significant destruction in parts of Taki Lalung and Bogong-I, further aggravating the situation.

Among the affected structures, the historic Runne Church sustained considerable damage, while the bridge over Letong Korong was also impacted, raising concerns over local connectivity and access.

At Ledum village, the swollen Dengkam Stream unleashed severe devastation, destroying several houses and leaving multiple families affected.

Flooding has also disrupted road connectivity, with portions of National Highway-415 at Leku and Rani village remaining submerged under floodwaters, hampering vehicular movement and transportation.

Amid the deteriorating conditions, rescue teams continued relief operations across vulnerable areas. In one such operation, the Indian Army successfully rescued an individual stranded at Oyan, highlighting the continued emergency response efforts being undertaken under challenging weather conditions.

In view of the prevailing situation, the district administration has appealed to the public to avoid all non-essential travel and venture outdoors only in cases of emergency or urgent medical requirements. Authorities have further urged residents to remain vigilant, strictly follow advisories issued by the district administration and extend necessary support to affected communities during the ongoing crisis.
