Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik on Sunday said the state is emerging as a sporting powerhouse and its youth are making their mark globally. He was speaking at the finals of the South Asia Football Federation (SAFF) Under-19 Championship held at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Itanagar.
Addressing players and spectators, the Governor said the successful hosting of the SAFF U-19 Championship would inspire young people in Arunachal Pradesh and across the Northeast to pursue football and showcase their talent on the international stage.
Congratulating the players, coaches, and organizers, including SAFF and the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Parnaik commended the discipline, sportsmanship, and unity displayed throughout the tournament. He also expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Arunachal for the opportunity to host the championship, calling it a privilege and an honour.
Highlighting the participation of teams from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and India, the Governor described the tournament as a symbol of regional cooperation. He encouraged players and coaches to serve as goodwill ambassadors for India and Arunachal Pradesh.
Kipa Ajay, treasurer of AIFF and secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association, noted that this was the first time the SAFF U-19 Championship was hosted in India and expressed pride that Arunachal had been chosen. He thanked Chief Minister Pema Khandu for his support in ensuring the event’s success.
SAFF General Secretary Purushottam Kattel praised the state’s enthusiasm for football and the collaborative efforts of the Arunachal government, the state football association, and AIFF. He said the tournament created a phenomenal atmosphere and brought together passionate supporters of the sport.
