Arunachal: Kargil Vijay Diwas rain run draws over 200 participants in Itanagar

More than 200 participants, including school and college students and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel, took part in a Kargil Vijay Diwas Rain Run organised at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar on Saturday to commemorate India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War.

The event featured 2 km, 5 km and 10 km race categories and was flagged off by Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung and Sports Minister Kento Jini. Participants joined the run to honour soldiers who lost their lives during the conflict.

Speaking to the media, Natung said Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India's victory in the 1999 war and pays tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the armed forces.

Athlete Joti Mane told India Today NE that such events help reinforce patriotism and recognise the contribution of the country's soldiers.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to mark India's victory in the Kargil War, during which Indian armed forces recaptured strategic positions in the Kargil sector after Pakistani intrusions in 1999.
