Marking 50 years of legislative evolution, the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) launched its Golden Jubilee celebrations (1975–2025) with the curtain-raiser APLA@50 Outreach Connect at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Itanagar.
The commemorative event was inaugurated in the presence of APLA Speaker Tesam Pongte, Prof. Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary from New Delhi, Prof. S.K. Nayak, Vice Chancellor of RGU, and Nabam Vivek, MLA of the 14th Doimukh Assembly Constituency.
In his address, Speaker Pongte conveyed deep appreciation for the occasion and emphasized the Assembly’s vision of strengthening democratic values among the youth. He announced a strategic initiative to reach out to 22 colleges across Arunachal Pradesh as part of the Jubilee celebrations. “This is more than a celebration; it’s a mission to bring governance closer to the youth and instill a deeper understanding of our democratic institutions,” he said.
Echoing this sentiment, MLA Nabam Vivek called upon educated and capable young individuals to actively consider entering public service. “If the educated shy away from politics, governance may fall into the hands of the unqualified. For a brighter and progressive Arunachal, our youth must step up and lead,” he remarked.
The curtain-raiser event saw vibrant participation from students of RGU and other regional colleges, sparking lively discussions on civic engagement, participatory democracy, and youth leadership. The outreach programme marks the beginning of a year-long series of engagements designed to bridge the gap between the legislature and future generations.
