Newly appointed Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Mama Natung, has emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order to ensure peace and facilitate the state's development. Natung, who previously served as the Sports and Forest Minister in Chief Minister Pema Khandu's government, has also been assigned the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) portfolio.
Speaking to the media, Natung highlighted his commitment to fostering peace, which he views as essential for the state's progress. "The Chief Minister has entrusted me with a significant responsibility, and I will do my utmost to maintain law and order. Peace is crucial for development. Without it, we cannot attract investors or tourists. I am also committed to tackling the drug menace by dismantling the supply chain and apprehending those involved in drug smuggling, which is harming our youth," Natung stated.
Mama Natung was elected unopposed in 2014 from the Seppa West Assembly constituency of East Kameng district as a Congress candidate. During his tenure as Forest and Sports Minister, his departments were recognized for their outstanding performance. Under his leadership, Arunachal Pradesh achieved numerous national and international sports accolades.
One of Natung's notable initiatives in wildlife conservation was the successful "Air Gun Surrender Abhiyan," aimed at curbing traditional hunting practices of birds and wildlife in the state, which boasts over 80% forest coverage. This initiative was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his "Mann Ki Baat" radio program, earning Natung widespread appreciation.
In the recent elections, Natung won from the Seppa West Assembly constituency, defeating his rival from the National People's Party (NPP) by a significant margin. As the new Home Minister, he is determined to continue his legacy of effective governance and ensure a secure and peaceful environment in Arunachal Pradesh.
