Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak has assured support for addressing infrastructure and basic amenity gaps at four higher educational institutions in Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district, including concerns over drinking water, road connectivity, power supply and campus safety.
Tagak visited the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Jote, Jarbom Gamlin Government Law College at Jote, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) at Jote, and Bini Yanga Government Women’s College at Poma under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect initiative.
During the visit, the MP interacted with students, faculty members and staff to assess campus facilities and understand the challenges faced by the institutions. He said the infrastructure requirements would be taken up with the state and central governments.
The delegation included Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek, Lt Col T.C. Tavum, Gram Chairperson Techi Punia, Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee vice-chairman Tadar Akap and the Sangdupota Circle Officer, among others.
At the institutions, concerns were raised over drinking water shortages, road connectivity, maintenance and the reliability of electricity supply. Tagak said road construction work leading to the institutions had been tendered and urged the contractor to begin work at the earliest. He also called for suitable engineering interventions in stretches vulnerable to land subsidence and landslides.
The MP also flagged safety and connectivity concerns over the bridge leading to Bini Yanga Government Women’s College. The bridge, originally constructed to accommodate a water pipeline, has limited capacity to support larger vehicles, including college buses. Tagak said he would take up the matter with the government in coordination with the local MLA.
At the women’s college, he emphasised the need to strengthen infrastructure and promote women-led development. He also announced support for installing a CCTV camera security system on the campus to improve the safety of students.
During his interaction at NIT Jote, Tagak spoke about the role of young people in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He said students and young professionals could contribute to the country’s development through innovation, leadership, civic participation and engagement with public policy.
He encouraged students to use their education and skills constructively, remain disciplined and work towards addressing social and developmental challenges. He also highlighted the potential of indigenous knowledge accumulated through generations, particularly in areas such as sustainable resource management, and called for its preservation and scientific assessment.
At FTII, Tagak acknowledged the institution’s role in developing talent in film, television and media. At Jarbom Gamlin Government Law College, discussions focused on constitutional values, justice, the rule of law and the responsibilities of future legal professionals.
The MP also highlighted Jote’s tourism potential, stating that better road connectivity and improved basic amenities could support tourism-related activities and generate opportunities in hospitality and other sectors.
The visit focused on identifying infrastructure and institutional requirements, with Tagak assuring that the concerns raised would be pursued with the relevant authorities.
