The business community of Naharlagun warmly welcomed the GST 2.0 reforms during a GST Bachat Utsav held today, while also urging the government to regulate online commerce, citing its adverse impact on local markets.
Finance Minister Chowna Mein and Women & Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul attended the event, organized in collaboration with the Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACC&I), which aimed to raise awareness about GST benefits, ease of compliance, and relief measures for small traders and entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein highlighted the crucial role of local traders in implementing GST reforms. “The GST collections in Arunachal have grown from Rs. 227 crore in 2017-18 to nearly Rs. 1,900 crore in 2023-24 — over 700 percent growth,” he said. “These additional resources are being utilized to build roads, improve healthcare, expand education, and fund welfare programs. The participation and support of the business community are essential to ensure that the benefits of GST reforms reach every household.”
Minister Dasanglu Pul and several MLAs, including Techi Kaso, Toko Tatung, Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Rotom Tebin, and Puinnyo Apum, along with ACC&I President Tarh Nachung and state BJP office bearers, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing collaboration between the government and the business community to build a stronger, more inclusive economy.
Local traders raised concerns over the burgeoning online business facilitated through courier services, stating that it threatens local competition and fails to contribute to society or support small businesses. “While online commerce has flourished, it has disrupted local markets,” said one trader. “We urge the government to consider regulations to protect traditional traders and sustain local economic activity.”
The GST Bachat Utsav campaign reinforces Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, promoting local industries, reducing imports, and creating a fair and transparent market ecosystem, while educating the public on the transformative benefits of GST.
