Arunachal observes International Day of Persons with Disabilities, DC highlights schemes empowering children with disabilities

The April Blossom Foundation, a school dedicated to children with special needs in Lekhi, Naharlagun, observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on Wednesday, December 3 with a warm and inclusive celebration. Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner, IAS Vishakha Yadav, and BJP General Secretary Tadar Niglar graced the occasion, joining students for a cake-cutting ceremony hosted by the institution’s founder and social worker, Binde Jini.

IDPD is globally observed on December 3 each year to promote the rights, dignity, and overall well-being of persons with disabilities, as well as to advocate for a more inclusive and accessible society. The Day was first proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992.

Speaking to the media, DC Vishakha Yadav appreciated the foundation’s efforts in providing free and dedicated services to children with diverse needs. She highlighted the school’s innovative support systems, including sensory learning corners and professional therapeutic guidance.

“I witnessed the motor-sensing equipment, audio-visual therapy support, and the encouraging feedback from parents. Schemes like Mission Vatsalya and ICDS have crucial components to empower children with special needs. With patience, care, and opportunity, these children can achieve anything they aspire to,” she remarked.

BJP leader Tadar Niglar also praised the students’ performances and assured continued commitment toward strengthening support systems for persons with disabilities.
“Our party stands dedicated to working alongside differently-abled individuals to build a more resilient and inclusive society,” he said.

Expressing gratitude to the dignitaries for their visit, founder Binde Jini informed that April Blossom Foundation currently supports 36 differently-abled children and has been functioning since 2022. She reiterated her resolve to continue providing a nurturing environment for children with special needs in the region.
