Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Vishakha Yadav (IAS) has issued fresh prohibitory orders against illegal earth cutting in the district, warning that violators will face strict legal action, including the seizure of machinery.
The order, which reiterates a similar directive issued last year, comes amid growing concerns over environmental damage and road safety. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that unscientific and unauthorized earth cutting has caused severe soil erosion, environmental degradation, and risks of flash floods in several parts of the district.
Supporting the DC’s move, Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek highlighted the alarming condition of the Holongi–Balijan road, which he said had turned into a disaster zone due to rampant dumping of soil from illegal earth cutting on the surrounding hills.
"Land grabbers have been cutting earth recklessly, leading to soil dumping that not only damages roads but also raises river water levels, posing flash flood threats," MLA Vivek stated. He urged residents to seek proper permission for earth cutting and to dispose of soil scientifically to prevent further destruction.
DC Yadav emphasized that the administration would adopt a zero-tolerance approach against offenders. “We will deal with violators with an iron hand. Anyone found indulging in illegal earth cutting without due permission will face legal consequences, and their machinery will be seized,” she said.
The district administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities in preserving the environment and maintaining ecological balance while ensuring infrastructure safety.
