Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the upgraded 40-bedded Kardu Taipodia District Hospital at Likabali, Arunachal Pradesh, on February 6, ushering in a new phase for healthcare provision in the Lower Siang district.
The event drew the attendance of Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge, Sports Minister Kento Jini, Urban Development and Housing Minister Balo Raja, local MLA and Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kardo Nyigyor, and other officials, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
The upgraded hospital aims to address longstanding healthcare challenges in the district. Officials explained that the addition of modern infrastructure and essential medical facilities reflects efforts to enhance both the quality and accessibility of healthcare. The Kardu Taipodia District Hospital serves as the primary government health facility for the Lower Siang district, with the intention of delivering comprehensive services closer to residents’ homes. Local leaders emphasized that the facility will not only serve Likabali but also benefit neighboring villages and remote communities, making quality medical care more inclusive and far-reaching.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Biyuram Wahge said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the health sector in Arunachal Pradesh has seen major improvements. Wahge highlighted that the government has prioritized healthcare infrastructure in recent years, resulting in better-equipped hospitals and improved patient care standards across the state. He noted that the upgraded hospital at Likabali is a testament to these ongoing efforts, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to public health.
He stated that the revamped hospital reflects the government’s focus on providing better and more accessible healthcare to people, especially in district and rural areas. By investing in modern facilities and skilled healthcare professionals, the state aims to bridge the gap between urban and rural health services, ensuring that even the most remote populations have access to timely and effective treatment.
The minister said the hospital is fully functional and equipped with round-the-clock electricity supply. This uninterrupted power ensures that critical medical equipment can operate efficiently at all times, which is vital for emergency and intensive care services. The hospital’s infrastructure includes upgraded wards, operation theatres, and diagnostic laboratories, all designed to meet the needs of patients and staff alike.
Services such as antenatal care, childbirth and several surgical procedures are being provided free of cost. The hospital also offers immunization programs and outpatient consultations without charge, reducing the financial burden on families. These free services are aimed at encouraging more people to seek medical attention promptly, ultimately improving overall health indicators in the district.
“This hospital will ensure that people get quality healthcare close to home, without worrying about money,” Wahge told the media, adding that the state government has taken concrete steps to improve health services across Arunachal Pradesh.
The upgraded facility is expected to ease the burden on residents of Likabali and surrounding areas, many of whom have previously had to travel considerable distances to receive medical attention. Officials anticipate that easier access to essential services will encourage better health outcomes and enhance overall well-being in the region. Community members have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the improved hospital will lead to faster treatment and a healthier future for all.
