Arunachal Rang Mahotsav, billed as the Northeast’s largest theatre festival, began its 15-day run at the DK Convention Centre with artists and directors from ten countries joining the third edition of the international event.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein told the gathering that the state is still developing its theatre culture but is progressing quickly as young performers emerge and international groups collaborate. He credited director Riken Ngomle for drawing global attention to the festival, adding that Arunachal Rang Mahotsav has now become the region’s biggest platform for theatre. Mein also described actor and festival ambassador Adil Hussain as a major source of inspiration for local talent.
Tourism Minister P.D. Sona welcomed the visiting delegates and recalled how the state’s renewed interest in theatre began four years ago during the Legislative Assembly’s 50-year celebration. He said that milestone set the momentum for what he called “Arunachal Ek Safarnama”, encouraging a surge of cultural and youth-centred activities across music, sports and fashion.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu praised Ngomle’s efforts in shaping the festival’s rapid growth, calling the event a moment of pride for the state.
He highlighted the participation of artists and directors from around the world and emphasised that young people in Arunachal possess strong theatrical potential. Khandu assured continued support for initiatives that help nurture creative aspirations across the state.
