Arunachal: Section 144 of CrPC imposed in Namsai following clashes between Tai Khamti Singpho and Adivasi youths

The deputy commissioner cum district magistrate of Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh in exercise of power conferred under Section 144 of CrPC has placed prohibitory orders following an incident of clash between All Tai Khamti Singpho youths and Adivasi youths of Namsai causing law and order problem. 

Gathering of more than 4 persons at a particular place at a time from 2nd Mile, Namsai to APIL Colony has been prohibited. Further, carrying of lethal weapons such as gun, dao, bow and arrows have been banned. 

Anyone found breaching the orders shall be prosecuted under appropriate provisions of law, added the order by the district commissioner.

The district commissioner has directed the Superintendent of Police, Namsai to strictly enforce the mentioned orders with immediate effect.

A tense situation prevailed in Namsai district after a a minor scuffle broke out between Adivasi and Tai Khamti Singpho youths at 2nd Mile area on January 13 regarding an inappropriate parking of a vehicle. The scuffle soon turned into a major clash leading to riots and some Khamti youths allegedly brandishing guns started firing. 

At least 16 persons were reported injured in the clash who were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

A local while speaking on the incident said, "It was a minor scuffle which later turned big. It was merely a personal matter which soon turned communal. Around 12 youths were injured in the incident among which 5 are in serious condition after getting hit by bullets fired by the other group. Some youths were also attacked with lathis and daos. Now who actually started the fight, that is yet unknown, although our Union youths were also involved in the incident. We demand the immediate arrest of the culprit. Also, ask for compensation of the property damaged in the incident"
