The 4th Nyokum Yullo celebration at the Indigenous Faith Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko School in MWYA, Deed Circle, witnessed a strong emphasis on preserving cultural roots, with former BJP President and former Advisor to the Chief Minister, Tai Tagak, leading the discourse.
The event was graced by Likha Bida, Principal of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Itanagar, as the Guest of Honour.
Speaking at the event, Tai Tagak underscored the significance of staying connected to one’s cultural heritage.
“The Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko will play a major role in the preservation and promotion of Arunachal Pradesh’s indigenous culture and traditions. The school is aimed at providing quality education to tribal children in an environment that respects and promotes their culture, language, and traditions,” he stated.
The Indigenous Faith Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko School at MWYA was inaugurated on January 14, 2023, in the presence of the Deputy Chief Minister and the Education Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
Modelled after the Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko school at Rang, this gurukul-styled institution integrates modern CBSE-based education with Indigenous teachings, values, and cultural practices. For the academic year 2024, the school has enrolled 75 students.

Guest of Honour Likha Bida expressed his appreciation for such initiatives, stating, “It is heartening to see such efforts undertaken for the preservation of our culture and language, as the school will serve as a platform for tribal children to learn and understand their cultural roots besides their regular education. It is our vision to see our children carry forward the rich heritage of the State.”
As part of the Nyokum Yullo festivities, students of the school showcased indigenous prayers, songs, and dances, and chanted Nyishi proverbs, reflecting the deep cultural significance of the occasion. Tagak, while participating in the festival rituals, reiterated the state government’s commitment to establishing more gurukuls and heritage centres to safeguard Indigenous traditions.
The celebration highlighted the crucial role of Indigenous educational institutions in nurturing future generations while maintaining the essence of Arunachal Pradesh’s tribal heritage.
