Two key bridges were inaugurated today, April 7 over the Kush River and near Yapa on National Highway 713 in Koloriang, the administrative headquarters of Kurung Kumey district, which lies along the Indo-China border.
The inauguration ceremony was led by local MLA of the 21st Koloriang Assembly Constituency, Shri Pani Taram, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner IAS Vikram Yadav, Superintendent of Police Bomken Basar, and Tasso Hinda, the contractor of Package 8 of the Joram-Koloriang road project. They were joined by officials from the District Disaster Management Office (DDMO) and engineers from the concerned departments.
As part of the event, the delegation conducted an inspection of the ongoing infrastructure development along the Kurung River, being executed by M/s PH Engineers.
MLA Pani Taram highlighted the strategic and economic significance of the new infrastructure. “With these bridges in place, Koloriang, which holds immense tourism potential, now enjoys better highway connectivity, despite occasional weather-related challenges,” he stated.
Deputy Commissioner Vikram Yadav emphasized the broader development impact, noting that improved road infrastructure would catalyze tourism and enable timely execution of multiple projects under the Rs 600 crore Vibrant Villages Programme aimed at uplifting the remote border areas of the district.
Speaking on the pace of construction, contractor Tasso Hinda acknowledged delays caused by natural calamities but assured that future maintenance of the highway will be smooth. He also claimed that despite the geographical challenges, the highway stands out for its quality and durability in the entire state.
