In a stark reminder of poor infrastructure in remote regions, villagers of Ekke village under Siyum circle in Upper Subansiri district were forced to carry a critically ill patient on their backs for several kilometres due to the absence of proper road connectivity.
Despite the rollout of 5G technology across the country, residents here continue to live without roads, electricity, or network connectivity. Villagers allege that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road project meant to connect their village, which was scheduled for completion two years ago, remains pending.
According to the locals, the contractor responsible for the project has deliberately delayed construction, leaving the community to endure immense hardships. The villagers further stated that they have not demanded any compensation from the contractor, despite the project’s prolonged stagnation.
Residents of Ekke village have urged authorities to intervene and ensure the timely completion of the road, stressing that lives are being put at risk due to the lack of basic infrastructure.
