The youngest district in Arunachal Pradesh is making swift progress in establishing essential infrastructure while tackling significant administrative challenges, according to its first Deputy Commissioner.
Panyor district, carved out earlier this year, faces critical issues, including poor educational outcomes and illegal land encroachment, that are hampering development efforts. CBSE examination results showed a concerning pass rate of just 56 per cent, prompting immediate intervention from the district administration.
Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta has launched a comprehensive education overhaul targeting an 80 per cent pass rate through subject session plans and education vision boards for the new academic year. "Education shuffling and education vision boards" have been implemented as part of the reform strategy, she told India Today.
The district administration has conducted four eviction drives to address unauthorised cattle movement on highways, with confiscated animals being auctioned as a deterrent measure. Government land encroachment remains another persistent challenge requiring ongoing attention.
Infrastructure development is progressing rapidly despite the district's recent formation. "Our Mini Secretariat with well well-equipped conference hall already constructed and on the verge of inauguration within a time of a month," Mehta said. The new facility will house relocated offices, including the Panchayat and DPDO offices currently operating from the DC's premises.
Healthcare infrastructure is expanding with a district hospital in the proposal stage and additional community health centres planned beyond the existing facility in Yazali. "DDSE Deputy Director of School Education office is on the pipeline, along with the district hospital, already in the proposal stage. There is one community health centre in Yazali and more in the pipeline for the future," the DC explained.
Road connectivity has reached all but two villages, with work proposals underway for the remaining areas. The Jal Jeevan Mission has achieved complete saturation across the district, ensuring water security for residents.
Educational support systems are being strengthened through the Poshan mid-day meal scheme and Direct Benefit Transfer for school uniforms. Student bank accounts are being systematically opened and revived to facilitate these transfers.
Local cooperation has proved crucial for the district's rapid development. Residents voluntarily donated land for establishing the district headquarters, significantly accelerating the setup of administrative offices and residential complexes.
The administration has introduced digital governance through WhatsApp-based Jan Suvidha services to improve citizen access to government services. A new Superintendent of Police office has been completed, with the road construction currently underway.
Mehta emphasised the district's focus on sustainable development through tourism, sports, and horticulture initiatives while addressing fundamental infrastructure gaps inherited from its recent formation.
