Protests erupted today at the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border near the Shantipur Gate following the alleged shooting and killing of an Assamese man named Shankar Pegu in Roing, Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh.
As a mark of protest, agitators staged a road blockade at the Assam-Arunachal boundary, bringing movement between Roing and Shantipur to a standstill since early morning.
The protest was led by several organizations including the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (TMPK) and various local groups from Shantipur and Sadiya, along with support from several Arunachal-based organizations.
The demonstrators are demanding justice for the victim and a thorough investigation into the incident. Tensions remain high in the region, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
