The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to hold its ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) rally in Arunachal Pradesh on November 3, as part of its nationwide campaign against the Congress-led opposition’s protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
BJP state in-charge Devesh Kumar announced the party’s position on the SIR exercise at a press conference held at the BJP state headquarters in Itanagar. He was accompanied by BJP spokesperson Mutchu Mithi, Roing MLA and Advisor to the Home Minister, and state vice-president Taying.
Kumar strongly defended the SIR, stating that electoral roll revisions had been conducted several times in the past, both in Arunachal Pradesh and across the country. He said the exercise was important to address concerns over the influx of outsiders and alleged illegal migration.
Accusing the Congress of using the SIR issue to deflect attention from its electoral defeats, Kumar alleged that the opposition was also attempting to instigate youths across the country.
The BJP is organising the nationwide ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign and a series of padyatras to counter the opposition’s allegations and protests. The party has maintained that the revision exercise is aimed at ensuring transparency and safeguarding the integrity of electoral rolls.
