Fresh India-China standoff claims emerge in Arunachal, official confirmation awaited

Fresh claims of a face-off between the Indian Army and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) have surfaced from the Taksing Circle in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Subansiri district, after photos and videos purportedly showing the incident began circulating on social media.

 

The visuals, which carry a reported timestamp of July 26, 2026, have fuelled renewed speculation over alleged Chinese activity in the border region. Some local sources claimed the confrontation may have begun as early as July 25, although there has been no official confirmation of the incident.

 

The latest claims come weeks after controversy over alleged Chinese activities near Taksing, Maza, Galemu, Potrang Lake, Tama Chuchu, Galen Sinyik and Shreechu Valley, areas located close to Asaphila, which remains under PLA control. The Nah Welfare Society (NWS) had earlier alleged that China had constructed roads, bridges and military camps on land traditionally used by local villagers for grazing and collecting forest produce.

 

The Indian Army and Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung have repeatedly denied reports of any fresh Chinese encroachment, describing such claims as rumours. Earlier this month, the Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit also dismissed viral videos alleging a 60-km PLA advance, stating that the footage was unrelated and recycled.

 

However, the newly circulated photos and videos have been cited by some residents and local leaders as contradicting the official position, raising fresh concerns among border communities.

 

Amid the uncertainty, Ajay Murtem, a public leader from Kamle district, has written an open letter to the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, urging the state government to conduct a ground-level assessment of the reported locations. He also called for coordinated verification involving the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), besides seeking an official public statement to address misinformation and reassure residents.

 

The appeal further urged the government to strengthen border surveillance and adopt confidence-building measures for people living in the frontier region.

 

Authorities are yet to officially verify the authenticity of the latest visuals or confirm reports of any face-off in the area.
