ASG Eye Care Guwahati collaborated with the Arunachal Academy of Ophthalmology to strengthen awareness and clinical response to diabetic retinopathy (DR) among patients visiting hospitals in Itanagar. The initiative, held as part of a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program, aimed to promote early diagnosis and reduce diabetes-related vision loss.
Led by Dr. Manab Jyoti Barman, a specialist from ASG Eye Hospital, the awareness session was attended by ophthalmologists including Dr. Taw Dipu, Dr. Taba Khanna, Dr. Techi Dodum Tara, and Dr. Lobsang.
The discussions focused on the management of DR, latest advances in Anti-VEGF therapy, and the ABCs of glaucoma workup.
Dr. Barman emphasised that while most participants were aware of diabetic retinopathy, significant gaps remained in patient knowledge and behavior toward disease management. He underscored the urgent need to promote regular retinal screenings and stricter blood sugar control to prevent vision loss.
He also explained cystoid macular edema (CME), a condition involving swelling and fluid buildup in the retina, as a common complication of uncontrolled diabetes.
Speaking to India Today NE, Dr. Barman asserted that ASG Eye Hospital is India’s leading eye care chain, offering state-of-the-art ophthalmic services across multiple specialties—including cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy, cornea, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplasty, pediatric ophthalmology, and refractive procedures such as LASIK, Contoura LASIK, ICL, and PRK surgery.
In Northeast India, ASG operates two hospitals in Guwahati. Both branches are well known for advanced cataract procedures, treatment of complex retinal diseases like retinal detachment and vitrectomy, retinal injections and laser therapy, glaucoma care, corneal transplants, oculoplastic surgeries, and LASIK laser treatments.
The session reflected a shared commitment between private and regional ophthalmologists to improve public awareness and bring accessible, quality eye care to underserved areas in the Northeast.
