Koloriang in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh is hosting the mega 41st General Conference of the Nyishi Elite Society (NES), the apex body of the largest tribe in the state.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the event today, where NES President Prof. Tana Showren hoisted the society’s flag to mark the formal opening of the conference.
The grand gathering at Koloriang — a remote town near the India-China border — brings together Nyishi leaders and delegates as the society prepares to elect its new executive body.
The district, often referred to as the Kagaz-Kalam District, was praised by the Chief Minister for its growing prominence and natural serenity.
Addressing the community, Chief Minister Khandu lauded the Nyishis for their pivotal role in strengthening unity and driving the progress of Arunachal Pradesh. He said the community’s leadership, cultural wisdom and collective spirit continue to shape the state’s social and cultural landscape.
He added that he looks forward to deeper collaboration for socio-economic empowerment, youth development and the preservation of indigenous heritage.
Emphasising responsible development, the Chief Minister urged that progress must align with environmental stewardship. “On this occasion, we collectively pledge to protect our mountains, forests, rivers and the fragile Himalayan ecosystem, ensuring that progress never comes at the cost of our environment,” he said.
