Landslide blocks Zemithang-Tawang road near border village in Arunachal, road connectivity affected

A landslide has blocked the Zemithang-Tawang road near Shakti village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, disrupting road connectivity in the remote border area.

The blockage occurred along the road connecting Zemithang with Tawang, close to the India-China border. Further details on the extent of the landslide, vehicular movement and restoration efforts were not immediately available.

Shakti is a remote border village in the Zemithang circle of Tawang district. The area is inhabited by local communities as well as yak-grazing communities and is located in the strategically sensitive frontier region.

The Indian Army frequently conducts medical and civic action camps in Shakti and surrounding areas to provide healthcare and other assistance to residents and pastoral communities.

Road connectivity in Tawang and adjoining frontier areas is particularly important for both civilian movement and logistical access. Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have previously disrupted key road links in the region, with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) undertaking clearance and restoration operations.
