K. T. Parnaik, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, has rejected recent claims by China over the northeastern state, stating that such assertions reflect “a problem in their minds” and do not alter the ground reality.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, the Governor said there has been no recent intrusion by Chinese forces into Arunachal Pradesh. He noted that the last such incident occurred at Yangtse in Tawang, where the People's Liberation Army was compelled to withdraw.
Parnaik said that China’s continued claims over Arunachal Pradesh and its attempts to rename places in the state carry no significance on the ground. “If they change names of places in Arunachal, it does not matter,” he said, underscoring that India maintains firm control over its territory.
Highlighting India’s improved defence capabilities, the Governor said the country’s preparedness today is significantly stronger than during the Sino-Indian War. “India is not the same as in 1962. Our preparedness is much better, and we should not be afraid,” he stated, adding that the country possesses one of the strongest armed forces with advanced defence equipment.
Parnaik also emphasised that there has been sustained vigilance along the border, ensuring that territorial integrity is maintained without escalation.
A retired Lieutenant General of the Indian Army, Parnaik assumed office as the 20th Governor of Arunachal Pradesh in 2023. He previously served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command and is the first officer from Maharashtra to hold that position.
