Strategic Bailey bridge in Arunachal’s Anjaw restored, reopens after 8-day army-BRO operation

A crucial Bailey bridge in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district, which connects some of India’s easternmost forward villages near the India-China border, has been restored after an eight-day repair operation by the Indian Army and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

The KKG-BSB Bridge at Krowti, also known as the Karoti Bridge, is located in Kibithoo Circle and spans the Lohit River. The bridge provides a vital surface link to forward villages including Kaho, Musai and Dong.

The strategic steel suspension bridge was severely damaged when an overloaded truck carrying sand attempted to cross it and became stuck, raising concerns over the structure's stability and forcing its closure.

The closure had disrupted connectivity to the remote villages, including Kaho and Dong, which are located close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Following eight days of intensive restoration work, the bridge was declared safe for light and small vehicles on September 9, 2026, officials said.

The restoration was carried out jointly by the Indian Army and BRO, with teams working continuously to restore the critical link.

Technical assessments of the bridge are still underway, with strict vehicle weight restrictions being maintained as authorities assess the structure's condition and work towards restoring its full functionality.

The reopening is expected to provide much-needed relief to residents of the remote forward areas and restore essential surface connectivity in the strategically important Kibithoo sector.
