Tensions rise in Arunachal’s Bordumsa over SIR hearing; protest turns violent

A tense situation has emerged in Bordumsa over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing process at the ADC office, with a protest reportedly turning violent.

Members of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), Bordumsa Students’ Union and other organisations staged a protest opposing the alleged inclusion of members of the Chakma community in the SIR process.

The situation reportedly escalated into clashes and open firing. However, it remains unclear who opened fire, and the exact circumstances leading to the firing are yet to be established.

Amid the unrest, an AAPSU leader was reportedly injured in a machete attack. The incident has further heightened tensions in the area.

Security forces have been deployed in Bordumsa to prevent any further escalation and maintain law and order. Authorities are expected to investigate the firing and the reported attack and ascertain the sequence of events.

The developments come amid heightened concerns and protests in parts of Arunachal Pradesh over the verification of electoral rolls under the ongoing SIR exercise.
