Kohima, April 6, 2019:

In an enthralling display, around 5,000 women from the Konyak Naga community came together on Friday to set a Guinness World Record.

The women, all decked up in colorful traditional attires, danced to the beat of traditional rhythms and chanted a ceremonial song for five minutes and one second in their attempt to enter the Guinness record books as the Largest Traditional Konyak Dance Display.

The programme was organized at Mon during the Aoleang Monyu festival of the Konyak tribe, held between April 1 and 3 every year to welcome the spring.

The attempt took weeks of synchronization and choreography and the result was no less than spectacular. The women came from 115 villages scattered across Mon district, which is where most of the Konyaks, who are one of the sixteen major tribes of Nagaland, reside.

The official declaration of the record is expected to be made by Guinness officials within five days, organizers have said.

Hats off to these beautiful and inspiring women for taking the rich culture and heritage of North-East India to the world.
