Guwahati, January 31, 2019:

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Thursday carried out a torchlight protest march at Uzan Bazaar in Guwahati to mark the protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The march was headed by AASU chief advisor, Samujjal Bhattacharya, ULFA pro-talks Anup Chetia and AASU president Dipankar Nath along with the other AASU members.

It may be mentioned that the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, during a speech delivered at the Rajya Sabha session today announced that the Bill is to be tabled in the ongoing Rajya Sabha session. This announcement by the President has frustrated the indigenous people of the state and all the North Eastern states.

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has already moved out of the alliance with the ruling BJP over differences regarding the Bill.
