AJYCP Tinsukia Unit Stages Demo Demanding CAA Repeal & ILP in Assam

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) today staged a two-hour sit-in demonstration on its office premises here demanding abrogation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 and introduction of inner-line permit in Assam.

Accusing the BJP government of trying to settle Hindu Bangladeshi infiltrators in Assam under provisions of the CAA for the party’s political gain, the youth organisation reiterated that CAA would never be accepted in Assam.

It also demanded inner-line permit (ILP) should introduced for visitors and settlers from other parts of the country in the state. Assam and Meghalaya are the only two states in the Northeast where ILP is not implemented. The Centre introduced ILP in Manipur in December 2019.

The protests, spearheaded by All Assam Students’ Union and AJYCP along with others, were kept suspended in view of the COVID-19 outbreak last year, but have resurfaced lately following easing of pandemic protocols in the state.
