Guwahati, January 23, 2019:

A fire Sunday razed a two-storey residential building in Basisthapur by-lane 1, Wireless, in the city of Guwahati, Assam, authorities said.

The blaze started at 10:45 a.m. on the first floor of a two-storey residential building owned by one Tushar Goswami. The fire was reportedly caused by a cylinder blast in the first floor of the building. Two children, aged 4 and 7 (Ishan and Ebon Goswami) were killed after their house was engulfed by flames. They were both students of the Srimanta Sankardev Niketan.

"It is unclear at what time the fire started....we came outside upon being exhorted by the mother and grandmother. They were screaming for help to save the children who were trapped within. However, the fire had turned into a blazing inferno at that point and there was little we could do to help. The fire-tenders arrived after half an hour or so, but it was too late by then...", a local told reporters.
