Assam: 50,000 Yaba tablets, heroin worth Rs 12.5 crore seized in Amingaon; 3 arrested

Assam Police seized a major consignment of narcotics, including 50,000 Yaba tablets and heroin, from a vehicle in Amingaon and arrested three persons from Manipur, officials said on August 1.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement personnel intercepted a Tata Nexon (AS 11-AA-6800) in Amingaon under Kamrup district.

The operation was led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Kamrup.

The arrested persons were identified as Kh Tabish (24) of Thoubal district, Thekcham Avinash Singh (41), also from Thoubal, and Nongmaithem Biswajit (38) of Imphal West district.

During a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered 50,000 Yaba tablets containing methamphetamine, weighing around 5 kg without packaging, which had allegedly been concealed inside specially created secret compartments.

Police also seized five soap boxes containing heroin, weighing approximately 67.5 grams without packaging.

The seized narcotics are estimated to have a street value of around Rs 12.5 crore, while the CID valuation of the contraband has been put at approximately Rs 7.5 crore, officials said.

Necessary legal action has been initiated against the three accused, and further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended destination of the narcotics consignment.

The seizure is being seen as a major success for Assam Police in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and efforts to prevent the movement of narcotics into Lower Assam districts.
