GUWAHATI: Amid the increasing rate of post-COVID complications fatalities, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has put forward a few demands to the Assam government today to take the same 'seriously'.

In a joint statement, APCC legislature party leader Debabrata Saikia and deputy leader Rakibul Hussain said that after talking to various hospital authorities and kin of the COVID-19 deceased, they have discovered that many patients succumbed to post-COVID complications even after testing negative.

"Especially, when hospitals released the patients right after their COVID-19 negative report, mostly the aged comorbid patients diagnosed with diabetes and lungs related diseases succumbed to post-COVID complications," said in the statement.

Both Congress leaders have appealed to the government to take the matter into concern.

"The COVID patient should not be released right after tested COVID negative or oxygen level comes back to normalcy. Their comorbidities shall be examined properly before releasing them," it added further.

It has recently come to notice that ever since the emergence of the new variant of COVID-19, patients are dying after recovering and discharge from hospitals.

The Delhi High Court was told last month that the variant was not so lethal in the first wave. But this time around, people are being attacked by 'happy hypoxia' in which the oxygen level, pulse rate and blood pressure dip immediately and the patient dies of a heart attack.

Reportedly, a patient only has 10 minutes left after the attack, which is very little time to get medical help. Hence, it has been suggested to the high court to direct an expert committee to examine such post-COVID complications.

The court observed "it is evident that the healthcare infrastructure is at the stage of imminent collapse" while noting that the virus has turned its ugly head-on.

Assam in recent days lost many prominent artistes, litterateurs among many other citizens who have died a few days after recovering from the disease.
