Assam: GMC employee allegedly attacked during eviction drive against illegal businesses in Guwahati

An eviction drive at Guwahati's Hatigaon area turned tense on September 16 evening after a Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) employee was reportedly assaulted by a group of people at the site.

The drive was carried out to allegedly remove illegal commercial establishments in Guwahati’s Hatigaon area. 

The GMC employee was part of a team of officials and personnel deployed to carry out the eviction drive against commercial establishments allegedly operating illegally in the locality.

According to preliminary reports, the situation escalated during the drive, with a group of people allegedly chasing and assaulting the GMC employee, who was in uniform at the time.

Visuals from the spot appeared to show a large number of locals pursuing and confronting several people associated with the eviction team.

The identity of the GMC employee who was allegedly assaulted has not been ascertained so far. The exact circumstances that led to the confrontation are also unclear.
